Performance is a undeniable tool in transformation. It was late February of 2006 when Jasmine invited me and three other ladies to join her in the co-creation of the whirlyGirlz - Portland's first hoopdance performance troupe. It's been less than a year(!) since our very first performance. What began as a simple endeavor by hoop hobbyists has become a collective vision of so much more. Performance has revealed much within each of us. We are evolving in our desires as performers, committed to conveying artistry that speaks to sensation and communicates a message of joyous self-celebration to our audiences.

Just this past weekend, whirlyGirlz Jasmine, Cara, and Holly delivered a performance at Miz Kitty's Parlour. I was traveling and unable to attend; however, rehearsals for their performance revealed the next evolution of whirly!! In 2007, the whirlyGirlz have set the intention to develop and embrace our individual and unique styles as performers... and to begin offering performances that convey a variety of textures and experiences.

As the summer approaches, our schedule will quickly fill with exciting opportunities to share our passions with you. Last summer was a blast!... vibrant colors and playful loose structures whirled us onto the scene. Moving forward, I hope you will come to know the next evolution of the whirlyGirlz, still as colorful and joyous as ever... however, more clear in our presentation of who we are and the many languages that we can speak as performers.
